Installation of Cassettes for Cathodic Protection of Beams on High Level Bridge, at Rockingham, Western Australia
The high level bridge was built in 1971 as a link between the mainland and the Naval Base on Garden Island. A slotted ribbon anode system was designed some time ago to provide cathodic protection to prestressed T-Roff beams but during installation it was found that the slots could not be easily cut over a portion of the beams. Cassette’s enabled exactly the same ribbon configuration but simply mounted on the surface.
The system was designed by GHD. Savcor’s installation manger reported on the Cassette simplicity to install and felt the system would have many applications. He felt that if it had been available at the start of the project the Cassettes would have been ideal for the whole project.
